Hello all, Thank you for this howto. You must additionally install a special driver which is the Brother backend for sane scanner which is used by Kooka Kubuntu. It seems as if the same process can be used for may other Brother Printers as well. Thats it, now you have a shared printer!! I would, however, request that you make your instructions a little more n00b friendly. I just have one questions.

I have just retested my own howto on a new clean install, but only Kubuntu and it works. If so, anyone know a way around it? After this, I tried to print a picture and a text document.

Uncheck Public and Writable. Download the following files from the Brother Website http: Excellent howto, was about to install my HL mf-c215c Edgy install, used this howto for the printer part hd it installed by the other howto that is very similar for dapper. After that, everything in your instruction set worked to perfection!

The display just lights up, then goes away again, no printing sounds or whatever else. List of the evaluated distributions and Brother products. You might as well do the same for any folders you want to share.
This is a pain, “dpkg -r” gets quite upset about trying to uninstall these drivers. Thanks to those who responded and confirmed the network printing and scanning.
Ensure you have already installed Sane and Xsane for Ubuntu as per the beginning of this howto. The direct links are for the latest at time of writing, so check the website for any updates and rather use those if available. You can check your version on your printer.
